To buy or not to buy, that is the question: Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to purchase A shiny toy, for an outrageous fortune, Or to resist overwhelming temptation And, by resisting, feel superior. To suffer one’s own sickening envy Of the indulgent, the early adopters Who’ll flash their toys and taunt with their consumption, Devoutly to be wished. To buy, to have To...

If, by any chance, you saw Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, or a trailer for the film, and wondered what it would be like to view it under the influence of psilocybin mushrooms, I will tell you: it was intense. Being a rabbit, I will never have the opportunity to skydive or bungee jump, but I cannot imagine that those physical thrills could equal the mental ride that I have taken.
As I...

I can’t help but be amused at his selection of blog title: “I’m All Ears.” I feel compelled to observe that if any member of this family is “all ears,” it’s me!

“I also just agreed to write a column for TheAwl.com from the perspective of Choire Sicha’s cat, which is descriptively if literally named “Cat.” For this I will be paid the ongoing Awl freelance rate of $0.00 a word. Which is almost what I got paid at Gawker. Cat welcomes topic suggestions, which can also be sent to espiers AT gmail.”

Should I read Lorrie Moore?
If so, which book or story should I read?

"American Birds."
I had never heard of Lorrie Moore, who I assume is a real human, until I read this story, which is excellent. Now, though, I find myself conflicted. Should I attempt to familiarize myself with her work? I sense that firmuhment is mildly contemptuous of Moore, and I have a great deal of respect for him and his writing, and so it follows that I should be influenced by his literary preferences. Yet...

if you have bad taste in music
and still dress like a hipster
i cannot be your friend.
i’ve noticed this is not true of people who wear ‘regular clothes.’
i am judgmental.
This seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I am often envious of human beings, who can experience and accomplish so much within a single lifetime. For a rabbit, life is relatively brief and fragile. Realistically, I can only hope to live for a decade or so, at most. And that is assuming that I do not unexpectedly succumb to some minor illness or injury that would barely phase a hardier beast. While I would prefer that it occur later rather...

My genitals are already on display when I go through security at the airport, because I must be removed from my travel bag and carried through the metal detector, and, being a rabbit, I rarely wear trousers. But still, I feel apprehensive about this development.
While I’m on the subject, I may as well voice my complaint about the discrimination that rabbits face when it comes to air travel....
